“The stories we tell literally make the world. If you want to change the world, you need to change your story. This truth applies both to individuals and institutions.” –Michael Margolis

So often we stop ourselves from sharing our story (or stories) out of fear, embarrassment, disbelief, or some other reason. However, once you cross that bridge and allow yourself to open, amazing things begin to happen. Yes, some people will likely not receive it well or combat it in ways, but many more will listen and even relate to your story. Focus on those who need to hear what you have to share rather than those simply holding you back.

Regardless of those critics, your story is important. Your voice should be heard. Right now, it seems as though being politically correct proves difficult and, while freedom of speech exists, so does the fact that many get offended easily and tend to be quite opinionated. However, if you focus on positives and simply telling your story to the best of your ability, then great heights are attainable. What’s more, exhibiting support for others and understanding (a little compassion, perhaps?), the naysayers should fade into the background.

Be proud of your story, no matter how many bumps you may have hit along the way, or how much you have or haven’t struggled. Without your journey being laid out the way it was, you would have made different decisions and would likely be in a different place. Embrace yourself, embrace your story. I would say shout it from the rooftops, but being proud and sharing does not have to be that in-your-face. By all means, shout if you must, but share authentically and those who need to hear it will be grateful and will be there with ears ready.

Go out, help make the world, and see what comes from sharing!
