Using Small Windows Wisely: Tips for Busy Mompreneurs

A vital method to the madness when growing a business as a mom is using small windows wisely: tips for busy mompreneurs coming up!

“Always keep in mind how you can best use this time that you call life.” — Debasish Mridha

I have to say, I love quotes! Even though I often find myself struggling to pronounce the author’s name, the wisdom in these words resonates deeply. Using time wisely isn’t just about squeezing productivity into every moment—it’s about making intentional, positive decisions in how you want to live, parent, run (or grow) your business, and raise your children.

As mompreneurs, we’re constantly moving—whether mentally planning or physically tending to endless tasks. It’s easy to feel like you’re in a whirlwind of chores, clients, kids, and responsibilities. That’s why making the most of the small windows of time in your day is so crucial. Sometimes, it’s about resting your mind, which is just as important as tackling that to-do list.

I’ll admit, I sometimes let time slip by. But I’ve come to realize that using your time wisely doesn’t always mean being productive. Sometimes, it’s about recharging. Giving yourself that space to breathe, especially when you’re caring for others 24/7, is part of maintaining your own well-being.

3 Tips for Using Your Small Windows Wisely

Here are three tips to help you make the most of those small windows of time:

  1. Recognize Patterns for Consistent Windows of Time

Most of us have some form of routine in our daily lives. Maybe it’s nap time for your little ones, or quiet time when they’re off to school or playing independently. These consistent patterns create small windows of opportunity to get things done—or to rest.

For example, when my daughter used to nap, I often had a two- to three-hour window. Sometimes, I’ll allow myself 30 minutes to watch a show I’ve been meaning to catch up on. It’s a chance to unwind before jumping into my next tasks. After that, I might use the remaining time to clean up, fold laundry, or even plan out my week in my planner.

Now, with homeschooling, they sleep a little later, so I usually have a good two hour window in the morning before we get rolling. That means I can enjoy a nice quiet cup of coffee, do some commenting and connecting, answer emails, schedule a few posts, and get things organized for the day in peace and quiet.

The key is to acknowledge these regular windows and use them intentionally. And sometimes, it’s okay to admit that you just don’t want to do something extra. Give yourself permission to say “no” to extra obligations—because it’s your time.

  1. Be Flexible With Your Tasks and Deadlines

Knowing what tasks need to be done and which ones can be pushed off allows you to be more flexible with your time. If you’re feeling drained one day, it’s okay to do the minimum. Spend time with the kids, read them a story, and leave the rest for tomorrow.

If your deadlines aren’t pressing, give yourself the grace to relax and recharge. The dishes can wait. The laundry can be folded tomorrow. Sometimes, I just need those extra few minutes at the end of the day to unwind, and I allow myself that time guilt-free.

  1. Listen to Your Needs

This is the most important tip: listen to what your body and mind need. Whether it’s taking a break or finding that final burst of energy to finish something, tuning into yourself is key. If you feel overwhelmed, take a 15-minute breather. Re-energize and then tackle your next task with a clearer mind.

I’ve shared before about the importance of granting yourself grace. If you need a refresher, feel free to join the Mom Elevated Society so you can reflect quarterly in the Gift Yourself GRACE program. Being kind to yourself will not only benefit you but will also have a positive effect on your children.

Sometimes, the best use of your time might just be enjoying a few moments of quiet, sipping a cup of coffee while it’s still warm, and preparing yourself for the next wave of activity. And guess what? That’s perfectly okay. You’re recharging to step back into the chaos as the superhero that you are.
