Real-Life, Raw Thoughts as a Mompreneur
Hey, lovely readers! I wanted to pop in today with some real-life, raw thoughts on the whirlwind that is life as a busy mom, running a household, and balancing businesses.
So, I recently had the pleasure of connecting with Crystal, who joined one of my live sessions. I’m here in Wyoming, enjoying the beautiful chaos of shifting weather patterns (seriously, we had 100-degree heat and snow within a week!) and dodging some of the smoke from nearby fires. Meanwhile, Crystal’s in Staten Island, where it’s been hot, humid, and rainy. Honestly, I’ve experienced that humidity firsthand in places like Georgia and Connecticut, and I don’t know how you East Coasters deal with it all the time!
Life here in Wyoming is as busy as ever. My three kids (ages 14, 10, and almost 7) keep me on my toes. Our 7-year-old is an absolute hoot, constantly giving us something to laugh about. My husband’s often away for work, so it can get pretty wild around here, but, honestly, I thrive on chaos. I’m also running two businesses—my VA business and the Mompreneur Coaching/Mentoring, so there’s never a dull moment!
Crystal shared she’s got five kids and was currently expecting her sixth! That’s incredible! I always thought about having five or six, but three was our happy compromise. It’s wild to think back on the timing of my kiddos—I had my first at 25, then spaced them out about four years apart. By the time my third came along, my patience was tested in ways I hadn’t imagined. If I had started younger, maybe I’d have had more energy for those long nights and wild toddler years, but you know what? Every stage brings its own challenges and joys.
Speaking of stages, we dove into a conversation about the “terrible twos,” and let me tell you, with my experience, it’s more like the “terrifying threes and fours” with both boys and girls! My son was more emotional in those early years, while my girls seemed to develop their sass as they got older. Each kiddo is different, though, so every stage requires a fresh set of patience, guidance, and understanding.
One of our other live attendees was about to welcome his first daughter, and we got chatting about how little ones can tug at our hearts with their big eyes and promises of “I won’t do it again.” It’s all about finding that harmony between nurturing and holding firm boundaries.
Impatience, though, right? It’s something we all struggle with, and it’s often tied to how busy or stressed we feel. For me, I’ve found that planning my day and using a planner (yes, even for my kiddos) has been a game-changer. I get that overwhelming “mental dump” out of my head and onto paper, which helps me breathe a little easier.
It’s all part of the journey, whether you’re navigating the baby stage (which I adore!) or dealing with preteen hormones (send help, ha!). I actually enjoy having a teenager, but sometimes that attitude needs a little check. But here’s the thing: it’s all about being the parent first and the friend second. It’s tough to enforce the rules, but following through on boundaries is crucial. Otherwise, kids (and clients, if we’re honest) start to see those rules as empty threats, and that’s a whole new can of worms.
We also got into the nitty-gritty of staying on top of our emotions and recognizing what sets off our impatience. For me, it’s all about making sure I’m in the right headspace. If I’m cranky or overwhelmed, that’s when the fuse shortens. So, I try to carve out little moments for myself—whether it’s reading a book after the kids go to bed or taking a breath before responding to a tantrum.
I’d love to hear from you. What triggers your impatience? What methods do you use to stay grounded and present amidst the chaos? Parenting while running a business is a rollercoaster, and we’re all in this together, learning as we go.
Until next time, stay patient, stay present, and remember—you’re doing an amazing job!
