How to be a more confident mompreneur…

I see you. I applaud you.

No matter how much of a hot mess you think you are today.

Whether you work from home, work outside of the home, work part-time, work full-time, have one or six kids…

Challenges and successes will come and go numerous times a day.

Some days will be better than others.

Maybe you had to go to the store and had spit up on you or your kiddo did your hair and makeup so you’re lookin’ so pretty.

At some point, you felt defeated, deflated, and degraded.

I think it’s about time we turn that frown upside down, though.

You have enough to worry about.

There should be a sense of pride in the fact that you MADE it to the store with everything going on, kept the kids alive and mostly happy, and hopefully, came out relatively unscathed.

Honestly, I think there should be an intercom system that comes on with a round of applause, cheers, and uplifting commentary when you go out in public as a parent.

One outburst and all eyes are on you. Once in a while, there’s a judgment passed.

What no one seems to take into account, though, is the other 12-15 hours you’ve already spent dealing with everything else.

Your mental tank may be full and your energy running on empty.

I’m here to tell you that’s okay, and lurkers can, quite frankly, go to h-e-double hockey sticks. Move along with what you’ve got to do.

For a little help in gaining that confidence, use these tips (these work for business relationships, too!):

Catch and Release

By this I mean, feel your feelings. Catch the emotion. Let it sit, marinate, take it in.

Acknowledge whatever you’re feeling. And then release it.

Let it go.

Don’t dwell on negative emotions or let them fester.

If you can do this, it’ll be easier to stay in a positive, confident state.

Consider

We tend to put our insecurities out on our sleeves.

That also makes us susceptible to judging those for judging us.

Consider the fact that they must also be feeling insecure if they are judging you negatively for having seen you once.

We all have good and bad moments, but wouldn’t you rather show kindness and courteousness EVEN when someone is taking their frustrations out on you than retaliate?

You don’t have to accept their poor behavior, but you don’t have to feed into it either.

Do Not Engage

Go about your business. Along the same lines as not feeding into negative behavior, you do not need to engage, either.

Let them show their character, reveal their true colors, and mosey on your way.

Nothing makes people more irritated than getting no reaction at all.

Who asked them, anyway?

I tend to be able to break the ice pretty well with strangers, but if I’m not in the mood, that’s okay.

They have no idea what I’ve gone through all day and vice versa.

Nor do we need to know each other’s days.

But I’d rather show compassion or just mind my own business than add on to someone’s bad day.

The good ol’ golden rule: if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.

What is one way you keep your confidence in check?

Remember, PAVE your way.
