Learning to let go… of control.

We made my hubby’s birthday cake in Feb.
All the kids contributed to making the batter.
Our youngest asked if she could scrape it into the pan.
I was trying to hurry and move on to our next to-do, so my knee-jerk reaction was, “I’m just going to do it real quick, okay?”
Pause.
Two beats later.
I stopped while holding the bowl and said, “You know what? Sorry. Yes, you absolutely can. Come here.” “YAY!” was the response with a little jump, then masterfully using the spatula to get every last drop.
Big sister took a turn as well.
It’s not that I didn’t want her to do it.
My head had made up the fact that it would take too long. It may have taken a minute or two longer, but it certainly didn’t impact our schedule negatively. haha
She was happy, I was happy, we had a beautiful cake when all was said and done.
Sometimes, we just need to pause and remind ourselves what’s important.
And in that moment, it was the MOST important.
(My perfectionist tendencies came out in them when I told them to poke holes and not worry about where to put them. They put them all in lines.)
When’s the last time you had to pause or SHOULD have paused?
