Someone To Learn Alongside
I wanted to be fully transparent with you, I caught myself!
Part of learning and growing is recognizing when you’re repeating a pattern or continuing with the behavior you’re trying to correct.
Sometimes it’s slight changes in language.
-Instead of saying you HOPE something will happen, speak as if it WILL or HAS happened.
-I was on a networking call when someone mentioned not saying how you “help” others (funny, since that’s what we’re taught from the moment we even think about starting a business, that I help statement) but rather facilitating or supporting or other like-term as help is often associated with FREE or out of the goodness of your heart execution.
-Saying your schedule is eventFULL instead of busy. FULL is often a more positive term.
Sometimes it’s bigger habits we fall back into of checking emails and messages while you’re talking to someone. (Guilty! 🙋)
I don’t always notice it right away.
In fact, I once spent the entire time a friend of mine was here smiling and nodding and being completely distracted with my computer working away.
I texted her later to apologize for trying to multitask horribly while obviously half-listening and not taking the time to give her my full attention.
It’s important to note we’re all learning, and a little grace is needed by those you surround yourself with and you for others.
But having someone lead a community who is OPEN to learning and growing is vital.
