The Mompreneur Checklist: 5 Must-Have Items

The Mompreneur Checklist: 5 Must-Have Items

I’ve not met many moms or business owners who don’t like a good list. A checkable one is the icing on the cake.

Let me share with you the mompreneur checklist: 5 must-have items, according to yours truly, that I’ve found over the last decade of juggling a business and motherhood.

1) Planner

Be it digital or paper (I love me some paper planners), this has been like the heart of everything for me. Organizing pieces, reminding me of things I’d otherwise forget, and helping me move things along more efficiently.

2) Village

Whatever support system you surround yourself with, make sure it’s a positive influence. Everyone needs some sort of guidance, lifting, and community. The beauty is you get to build your village as you see fit.

3) Routines

Even a loose schedule can be extremely helpful. It allows your kids to understand your availability and you to know different windows for your business. Shifts will need to be made, but adjusting will get easier and easier.

4) FUN

In terms of business items (pretty pens, affirmation cards, colorful sticky notes, or a planner with motivational sayings) or personal and family accessories. If you like shirts with patterns or colors or sparkles, go for it! Allowing yourself to find enjoyment in all areas of your life will lead to better results. No one said business (or motherhood) had to be boring or dull!

5) GRACE

Each day requires some grace as you learn and grow along with your children (and your business). Allow those missteps, reflections, and beautiful memories that make you human to increase the bond and connection between you all. Journal if you like, meditate if it’s on your heart, and tap into tools like the Gift Yourself GRACE program when needed.

You CAN be a great mom and a BOSS business owner. And you’re not alone while you traverse it all. Which one stands out the most to you today?

Making Motherhood Easier

Making Motherhood Easier

So many lessons to learn along the mompreneur journey. Most of the time, we are on a journey to make motherhood easier.

But it’s often undoing a lot of what we put in place to protect ourselves along the way.

Walls.

We put them up consciously or even subconsciously after experiences.

Sometimes you can pinpoint the exact moment when you locked up a part of yourself like Fort Knox.

My three kids have taught me that it’s safe to open up parts of us we once closed off.

I’m a pretty logical person (hello, Virgo), and so is my son. So, if we can make sense of something, we’re pretty good to go.

That means we can be stubborn and less of the touchy-feely emotional side of things. I also don’t do crying much because I remember being called a crybaby once when I was little and because I experienced so much loss in my elementary years, I just feel like I closed off that part of myself, and “it’s just part of life.”

While my son is logical, he’s still a human and tends to feel those logical thoughts very deeply.

Then, the girls came along. The older Tavie, the youngest, gets, the heavier the “big emotions” get. But Oriana definitely gave me a run for my money as she wears her heart on her sleeve and yet is one of the strongest people I’ve ever met.

I’ve never thought of emotions as weak, but she gave me a new perspective on just HOW strong someone who is so in tune with each feeling can be.

  • Treyton taught me that logical doesn’t mean unemotional but that it can be difficult and confusing trying to understand those feelings and how to get through them.
  • Oriana taught me that you can let strength leak out of your eyes and still be such a sweet, caring, unwavering soul.
  • Octavia is teaching me that you can be a caretaker and still know EXACTLY what you want for yourself, and we’re all still learning how to not let those big emotions take over situations.

Honestly, I find that they not only broke down my walls but they found secret gardens I didn’t know were inside me, waiting to grow and be brought to life.

Thanks to my children, I am able to bring all of that into my business which, as far as I’m concerned, makes me a better leader for my team and creative partner for my clients.

The #1 Q I Ask My Kids to Make Mothering Easier

The #1 Q I Ask My Kids to Make Mothering Easier

Let me share with you the #1 Q I ask my kids to make mothering easier.

I used to assume that having a background in childcare, having been a nanny, and working around kids most of my life meant that I would know how to take care of my kiddos no matter what surfaced.

Talk about naive. Whew. I had no clue, huh?

Granted, it definitely means I had an idea of what to expect, but I still mostly had a daily reprieve back then.

One important lesson I’ve learned as a mom is that sometimes our kids need us to ask, “What do you need?”

I don’t always know right away.

My middle daughter is quite a beautifully emotion-led girl and happens to be quite the opposite of how I think and react. There are times I find myself at a bit of a loss with how to handle her responses to situations. My nature tells me to walk away, this is uncomfortable, she probably wants to be left alone. We all know what they say about assuming, so I started asking, “What do you need from me?”

She’s a bright, capable little human and usually tells me something like a hug or some sort of comfort, but it works better for us because I’m not left like a deer in headlights or telling her to suck it up, buttercup and get over it, but I’m letting her be who she is while offering her whatever it is that I may be able to during her moments.

Being a business-owning driven mom has its difficulties, but allowing them to navigate me so I can guide them to the best of my ability makes it allllll worth it.

I learn more through them for both business and life than I think I’ve learned over the course of the entire rest of my life before them.

I put together these 5 Steps to Managing a Business AND Kids learned along my journey just for you: https://momelevated.ck.page/managing-a-business-and-kids-tips
