Investing in Yourself: The BIDS Framework for Mom Entrepreneurs

Investing in Yourself: The BIDS Framework for Mom Entrepreneurs

Let’s delve into a topic that’s crucial yet often sidelined in our busy lives — investing in yourself.

Whether you’re navigating the entrepreneurial journey or juggling motherhood, prioritizing self-investment is key to personal and professional growth.

The Importance of Investing in Yourself

As moms and entrepreneurs, we frequently find ourselves putting others first—our families, clients, and communities. While this nurturing spirit is commendable, neglecting our own needs can lead to burnout and stifle our potential.

Investing in yourself doesn’t always mean spending money; it’s about dedicating time, energy, and resources to your personal and professional development.

I always love to kick off with a quote that resonates with the theme. Today, I’m inspired by Tony Gaskins:

“Invest in yourself to the point that it makes someone else want to invest in you.”
— Tony Gaskins

This powerful statement underscores the essence of self-investment. When you believe in yourself and continuously develop your skills and mindset, it naturally attracts others to invest in you—be it through partnerships, sales, or support.

Introducing the BIDS Framework

To make self-investment actionable, I’ve developed the BIDS acronym. This framework breaks down the process into four manageable steps:

  1. Believe
  2. Idea
  3. Delegate
  4. Support

Let’s explore each component in detail.

  1. Believe

Believe in your vision and goals. Start by writing down your beliefs, dreams, and aspirations. For instance, I recently penned my dream life story, outlining my goals for both family and business. This tangible documentation serves as a reminder during challenging times and allows you to adjust your vision as you grow.

Action Steps:

  • Write down your core beliefs and long-term goals.
  • Revisit and revise them regularly to reflect your evolving aspirations.
  • Use this written vision to stay motivated and aligned with your objectives.
  1. Idea

The Idea phase involves bringing your beliefs to life through planning and goal setting. Break down your big goals into smaller, achievable tasks with realistic timelines. This structured approach ensures steady progress without overwhelming yourself.

Action Steps:

  • Brainstorm and outline your major goals.
  • Break these goals into smaller, actionable steps.
  • Set realistic deadlines and adjust them as needed based on your circumstances.
  1. Delegate

Delegate tasks that drain your energy or time. Whether it’s household chores or business responsibilities, identifying what you can delegate allows you to focus on what truly matters. Delegation doesn’t always require financial investment; sometimes, it’s about reassigning tasks within your existing resources.

Action Steps:

  • List tasks that are time-consuming or unenjoyable.
  • Identify opportunities to delegate these tasks, whether to family members, team members, or external services.
  • Start small, like hiring a cleaning service, and gradually delegate more as you grow.
  1. Support

Building a strong Support system is vital. Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who uplift and motivate you. Whether it’s friends, business partners, or members of the Mom Elevated Society, having a reliable support network can make all the difference.

Action Steps:

  • Connect with supportive individuals in your community or through groups like the Mom Elevated Entrepreneur Group.
  • Foster relationships that provide encouragement, accountability, and constructive feedback.
  • Be open to evolving your support network as your needs change.

Embracing the Journey

Investing in yourself is an ongoing journey that requires dedication and adaptability. Whether you’re just starting or have been on this path for years, the BIDS framework can help you stay focused and motivated. Remember, it’s okay for your goals and beliefs to evolve over time. The key is to stay committed to your growth and remain flexible in your approach.
