When A Book Hits, It Hits

When A Book Hits, It Hits

I finished another book: Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins.

I had started it… then devoured the rest in one day this past weekend.
(When a book hits, it hits.)
And honestly, it was the perfect way to wrap up the holiday weekend and prepare me to handle the chaos that’s happened so far this week (that I had no idea was coming) — cozy, calm, and completely absorbed in another world for a little while.
What are you reading right now? Or what’s next on your list?

Takeout And Pajamas

Takeout And Pajamas

Last week (like most weeks) felt like such a mix of emotions, lessons, tiny inconveniences, unexpected hiccups, treasured times, and those little human moments that remind us we’re all just doing our best.

From patience with kids, to reframing setbacks in business (and celebrating wins!), to watching people shift and shine, to realizing that abundance doesn’t always look like the picture we originally painted…
It’s all been a reminder of how much growth can happen quietly in the background when we slow down long enough to notice it.
And honestly?
I’m looking forward to ending the week with something simple and fun: movie night and glow bowling with my crew.
A reset.
A pause.
A reminder that real life matters as much as the work we pour ourselves into.
So before we head into the weekend, I’d love to hear from you:
✨ What did this week teach you?
✨ Where did you grow, even a little?
✨ Or—what’s one thing you’re looking forward to this weekend?
Share anything—from a deep reflection to “I’m excited for takeout and pajamas.”
Everything counts. 💜

Spark Of Joy

Spark Of Joy

I recently found half-written music for two songs I wrote with our choir accompanist, Lisa, back in high school.

I wrote a lot of songs then — lyrics and melodies — and Lisa helped bring a few to life with music. Later, I joined a band in college (that’s a story for another day 😉).
Since I’ve kept up with piano over the years — earned a music degree, taught beginner lessons, took a ten-year break, and started again — finding these songs inspired me to relearn Lisa’s parts.
One of them was my senior solo, a farewell to the friends, teachers, and memories that filled those hallways.
I’m still practicing, still smoothing things out, still hitting the occasional wrong note. But mistakes are part of the process — and recovery is half the battle.
🎵 Feel.
🎵 Acknowledge.
🎵 Breathe.
🎵 Release.
🎵 Move forward.
That rhythm works in music and in life.
What’s something old you’ve rediscovered lately that brought a spark of joy back?

From Chaos to Calm: Why We Need Both the Busy and the Break

From Chaos to Calm: Why We Need Both the Busy and the Break

Some days are filled to the brim, some filled with rest — both are needed.

Saturday, we did allllmmmoooossstttt nothing. Basically. We’ve had a FULL couple of weeks, so we needed the sleeping in and rest.
Sunday is grocery shopping, laundry catch-up, other cleaning, cut nails, showers, and resetting for the week.
We finished up some cleaning, did some school, went to a Science of Magic Show during the day, made some calls, paid some bills, and a Magic Show (missed dance to see it) in the evening. Also made some banana bread.
The ebbs and flows are worrrrttthhhh it all, though. I love the quiet moments together along with the chaos that whirls us around.
Poll: Which are you craving right now?
Go-go energy ⚡️
Rest and recharge 🌙
Drop your answer in the comments!

7 Simple Ways to Stay Connected with Your Kids—Even When You’re Crazy Busy

7 Simple Ways to Stay Connected with Your Kids—Even When You’re Crazy Busy

Let’s be real—mompreneur life is BUSY.  Between work, house chores, and everything else on your plate, finding quality time to connect with your kids can feel like another task on the to-do list.

But here’s the beautiful truth: it doesn’t have to be complicated, expensive, or time-consuming.

You just need a few intentional moments each day or week to show your child: I see you, I hear you, and you matter.

Here are 7 simple and impactful ways to bond with your kids—even on your busiest days:

  1. Create a Weekly Tradition (Like Movie Night!)

Set aside a regular night each week where your family can unplug and be together. A classic? Friday Movie Night. Popcorn, pajamas, and picking out a movie (even if it’s just streaming on Netflix now instead of a Blockbuster run) makes for consistent connection and something they can look forward to.

📝 Try this: Let your kids take turns choosing the movie. Add a themed snack or fort-building challenge to spice it up!

  1. Read Together—Every Night if You Can

Reading before bed isn’t just about literacy. It’s about closeness, calm, and conversation. Whether it’s a chapter book for older kids or interactive picture books for toddlers, this is a cozy, quiet way to wind down together.

📝 Try this: Choose a book series to read as a family. Rotate who picks the story, and talk about it afterward to boost engagement.

  1. Cook or Bake Something Together

Mealtime is built-in bonding time! Invite your kids into the kitchen while you’re already cooking. Measuring ingredients, stirring, and even taste-testing turns chores into memory-making.

📝 Bonus tip: Picky eaters are more likely to try food they helped make. Win-win!

  1. Break Out the Board Games and Puzzles

Games build teamwork, patience, and plenty of laughter. Keep it simple with age-appropriate games and puzzles—no need for a three-hour Monopoly marathon unless you’re up for it.

📝 Mom Hack: Keep a puzzle roll-up mat handy to save in-progress puzzles from tiny hands and curious pets.

  1. Make a Mess (On Purpose!) with Arts & Crafts

Arts and crafts don’t have to be Pinterest-perfect. Grab some dollar store supplies, toss a tablecloth on the floor, and let the creativity fly. Paint, glue, cut, and create—it’s therapeutic for them and for you.

📝 Craft idea: Fingerprint flowers, toilet paper roll stamps, or just good old coloring books. (Psst…I made it even easier for you, you can get the Mom Elevated coloring book with 20 easy craft ideas!)

  1. Go Outside—Even Just for 15 Minutes

Fresh air = fresh attitudes. Whether you’re gardening, walking, playing chalk games, or just blowing bubbles, nature is an easy backdrop for connection. Even a quick rock hunt or dandelion bracelet session can be magical.

📝 Try this: Teach them an old-school trick like making noise with a blade of grass—total mind-blower for little ones!

  1. Talk (and Listen) With Intention

Kids have thoughts, feelings, and endless stories. Give them space to talk. Ask about their day, let them vent, or just be there to listen when they need it most. These conversations matter more than we often realize.

📝 Night Owl Tip: Bedtime is prime time for deep convos and surprising questions (yep, even about puberty—in the middle of a grocery store aisle).

Let’s Wrap It Up

“The most precious gift we can offer anyone is our attention. When mindfulness embraces those we love, they will bloom like flowers.” – Thich Nhat Hanh

Your presence is powerful. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being present—in all the messy, silly, beautiful, chaotic moments.
