The Beauty of Becoming: 6 Reasons You Don’t Have to Do Life or Business Perfectly to Move Forward
What if the goal isn’t to finally “arrive,” but to become someone who can embrace wherever the journey takes you?
We put an awful lot of pressure on ourselves to get things right.
- To make the right decision.
- To build the right business.
- To be the right kind of mom.
- To have the right systems.
- To respond perfectly when something goes wrong.
- To know what we’re doing next.
And, somehow, we’re supposed to do all of this while also enjoying our lives. No pressure, right? 😂
But here’s what I’ve come to believe:
You don’t have to do life or business perfectly to be moving forward.
You need room to adjust.
- Room to learn.
- Room to celebrate.
- Room to feel frustrated.
- Room to forgive.
- Room to change your mind.
- Room to become.
Because becoming isn’t about reaching some final, polished version of yourself where you’ve figured everything out.
It’s about continuing to grow into the person, business owner, mother, partner, leader, and human being you’re capable of becoming.
And there’s actually a lot of beauty in that process.
1. Because Your Life Isn’t a Straight Line
We love a good five-step plan.
Step 1. Step 2. Step 3. Success!
Except life rarely cooperates that neatly.
- Things happen.
- Your priorities change.
- Your kids grow.
- Your business evolves.
- Opportunities appear that you couldn’t have predicted.
- Things you thought you wanted stop feeling important.
- Things you never expected to want become incredibly meaningful.
If you treat every deviation from the original plan as a failure, you’ll spend a LOT of time feeling like you’re failing.
Instead, what if you treated your plan as a starting point rather than a contract?
- You can have goals without being rigid about how you reach them.
- You can have direction without knowing every turn you’re going to take.
- You can change the plan without abandoning the destination.
Sometimes the pivot isn’t evidence that you got lost.
It’s evidence that you learned something.
2. Because Flexibility Is a Form of Strength
We often associate strength with endurance.
Push harder. Keep going. Don’t quit. Power through.
But there’s another kind of strength that doesn’t get nearly as much attention:
The ability to adjust.
- Knowing when to push and when to pause.
- Knowing when to hold a boundary and when to extend grace.
- Knowing when something needs more effort and when it needs to be released.
- Knowing when your original plan no longer fits the season you’re in.
Flexibility doesn’t mean you’re flaky or inconsistent. It means you’re paying attention.
And when you build a business around your actual capacity instead of pretending you have unlimited energy, time, and resources, you create something much more sustainable.
Sometimes the strongest decision you can make is: “Not right now.”
3. Because Abundance Requires More Than One Definition of Success
Abundance gets talked about a lot in business.
Usually, we’re talking about money.
More clients. More revenue. More growth.
And those things can absolutely be wonderful.
But abundance can also look like options.
- Time.
- Energy.
- Creativity.
- Support.
- Connection.
- Rest.
- Freedom.
- Being able to say no.
- Being able to take an afternoon off without your entire business imploding.
Having a business that gives you more life instead of requiring your entire life in exchange for it.
That’s abundance, too. And sometimes the path toward more abundance isn’t doing more.
It’s creating space for more of what actually matters.
- More space to think.
- More space to breathe.
- More space to be present.
- More space to enjoy the thing you worked so hard to build.
4. Because Frustration Can Be Information
You’re going to get frustrated.
No business strategy, productivity system, morning routine, planner, or mindset shift will magically remove frustration from your life.
- Your kid will ignore you.
- A client will send something late.
- A project will go sideways.
- You’ll make a mistake.
- Someone will misunderstand you.
- You’ll misunderstand someone else.
- Something will break five minutes before you need it.
That’s life.
The goal isn’t to become someone who never gets frustrated.
The goal is to become someone who knows how to move through frustration without letting it run the entire show.
Feel it. Express it. Take a breath. Then get curious.
- What happened?
- What contributed to it?
- What can be repaired?
- What needs to change?
- Is there a lesson hiding in the frustration?
Sometimes frustration points directly at the place where a system, expectation, communication style, or boundary needs attention.
It doesn’t have to become a dead end.
It can become data.
5. Because Forgiveness Makes Room for Growth
People are going to make mistakes.
- You will.
- I will.
- Our kids will.
- Our clients will.
- The people we love will.
That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have accountability. It doesn’t mean actions shouldn’t have consequences. It doesn’t mean we should ignore patterns of behavior that continue to hurt us.
Forgiveness isn’t forgetting.
And it isn’t saying, “What happened was okay.”
Sometimes forgiveness simply means refusing to let what happened consume every ounce of space you have moving forward.
It can leave room for someone to take responsibility. To make amends. To learn. To demonstrate that they’re trying to do better.
And sometimes, that person is you.
Because growth becomes really difficult when you’re constantly punishing yourself for the person you were before you knew what you know now.
- You can acknowledge that you messed up.
- You can take responsibility.
- You can repair what you can.
And then you can choose to do differently moving forward.
You don’t have to remain stuck in an old version of yourself just because she made a mistake.
6. Because Becoming Is Something to Celebrate
This might be my favorite reason of all.
We are SO focused on what’s next.
- The next goal.
- The next launch.
- The next income level.
- The next milestone.
- The next version of our business.
And there’s nothing wrong with ambition.
But if you’re always looking at the next thing, you can accidentally overlook the person standing here right now.
Look at what you’ve already learned, what you can handle now that once felt impossible, and the boundaries you didn’t have before.
- The conversations you can now have.
- The things you understand about yourself.
- The business skills you’ve developed.
- The decisions you make differently.
- The things you no longer tolerate.
- The things you finally give yourself permission to want.
That’s growth. That deserves to be celebrated.
Not just the big, shiny, Instagram-worthy milestones. The quiet ones count, too.
- Sometimes becoming looks like a six-figure launch, or finally taking a Saturday off.
- Sometimes it looks like asking for help, or saying no without explaining yourself for seventeen minutes.
- Sometimes it looks like realizing that the goal you were chasing isn’t actually your goal anymore.
That’s still progress.
The Beauty Is in the Becoming
I have a planner page that says:
“Revel in the Beauty of the Becoming.”
And I think that’s such a beautiful reminder because becoming doesn’t require perfection. It requires participation.
You have to be willing to notice.
To learn, adjust, grow, celebrate, forgive, try again, release what no longer fits, and make space for what does.
Your life isn’t a test you’re supposed to ace. And your business isn’t a puzzle you have to solve perfectly before you’re allowed to enjoy it.
- You’re building while you’re becoming.
- You’re parenting while you’re becoming.
- You’re leading while you’re becoming.
- You’re figuring things out while you’re becoming.
And there will be seasons where everything feels beautifully aligned. There will also be seasons where you’re making it up as you go.
Both can be part of the process.
- So make the plan.
- Dream the big dream.
- Go after the abundance.
- Build the business.
- Set the boundaries.
- Take the opportunities.
But leave room for life to happen, too.
Because maybe moving forward isn’t always about moving faster. Maybe sometimes it’s about moving more intentionally. Maybe it’s about having enough space to respond instead of react.
- Enough grace to learn instead of judge.
- Enough flexibility to pivot instead of quit.
- Enough confidence to celebrate instead of immediately moving the goalpost.
And enough curiosity to look at the woman you’re becoming and say:
“Ohhh… I really like where this is going.”
That’s the beauty.
Not finally having it all figured out.
Becoming someone who knows she doesn’t have to. 💜
